At night I braid her hair
As my grandmother did
As her mother did
And as it was
To the tribal ancestors
The two spirited child
With their colorful heart
And Taino soul
I dream in tribal symbols
Of the taínos
Of the land of Puerto Rico
Oh my child,
How different your world
Would’ve been, had the past
Not been the past
Rest now with your twisted hair of onyx and maple
Awaken tomorrow
with your courage of all things your life
Remember your ancestors And love your path
I've entered an imperfect world
As the imperfect human that I am
My Taino ancestors watch over me
They guide me as I age
I extend my hand
Accepted
I extend some food
Taken
It is a chaotic world
But we can leave it a better place
Leave your legacy in the light
Fight the external darkness
And leave the world a better place
Accept everyone for who they are
An impact of particular events
An impact of actions
An impact of a person’s life
Genuine work of art
Genuine joy of a train ride
Genuine smile towards fellow human
Fulfill your goals at your own expense
Fulfill your dreams while you're awake
Fulfill your promises
Inherit your heritage
Inherit your ancestral DNA
Inherit the world as it is
Make changes to improve
Make improvements to lives
Make yourself known through your legacy
I stay for hope, I stay for love, I stay for our future and to feel above.
No matter the pain, the work or dedication,
I stay because my heart wouldn’t survive the suffocation.
So no matter what, here I stay, your happiness is my happiness in every way!
I sat in the light
They laughed in the darkness
I felt them
They watch me
Cackling
They see me through the blinds
I sense you
Closed blinds
Closed eyes
