At night I braid their hair
As my grandmother did
As her mother did
And as it was
To the tribal ancestors
The two spirited child
With their colorful heart
And Taino soul
I dream in tribal symbols
Of the taínos
Of the land of Puerto Rico
Oh my child,
How different your world
Would’ve been, had the past
Not been the past
Rest now with your twisted hair of onyx and maple
Awaken tomorrow
with your courage of all things your life
Remember your ancestors And love your path
I stay for hope, I stay for love, I stay for our future and to feel above.
No matter the pain, the work or dedication,
I stay because my heart wouldn’t survive the suffocation.
So no matter what, here I stay, your happiness is my happiness in every way!
I sat in the light
They laughed in the darkness
I felt them
They watch me
Cackling
They see me through the blinds
I sense you
Closed blinds
Closed eyes
